No.

Do you have a preference as to which modules I studied during my law degree?

No.

How many Interns do you recruit annually?

The number varies from year to year, but normally we recruit between 10-20 in each of June and July. It is important for us to support the Firm’s resource strategy by taking in top calibre Interns who we hope will eventually become part of our Trainee Programme. We are focused on ensuring all Interns have a positive experience with A&L Goodbody whereby each Intern has all the support and training they need during their internship. Therefore, we monitor our intake numbers to ensure we can deliver a quality internship to those who have been offered a placement with the Firm.

Do Interns get a choice of departments?

Where possible we try to place Interns in the department of their choice.

Which practice areas do Interns work in?
  • Corporate
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • Litigation & Dispute Resolution
  • Property
  • Taxation
  • Employment & Pensions
  • Private Client
What does my internship involve?

As an Intern we aim to provide you with as much hands-on legal experience as possible so that you will gain valuable experience and insight into the role of a Corporate lawyer. This includes:

  • 4 week placement
  • Paid Internship
  • Team based
  • Direct Partner & Solicitor access
  • Assist the solicitors with high quality legal case work
  • Carry out research
  • Attend court
  • “On the job” and structured training programmes

We also wish to ensure that you gain an understanding of other practice areas and therefore we will schedule departmental presentations delivered by Partners, Senior Associates and other legal professionals during your time with us. The Summer Internship Programme will provide you with an opportunity to gain an understanding as to what a career in Corporate law entails.

What kind of “on the job” training will I receive?

As an Intern you will be working as part of a team, working directly with Partners, Solicitors and Trainees. “On the job” training means that you will be involved in everything your team is involved in and will be doing similar work to that of a junior Trainee.

Do you offer training apart from on the job training?

In addition to your “on the job” training, we also have a more structured training schedule. Each day you will have either a skills training session or a departmental presentation. Skills training includes for example, presentation skills, interview skills, effective written communication, time management etc. And the departmental presentations are just that. A Partner or Solicitor from each department will speak with you about the work of their department and how it fits in with the firm as a whole.

What percentage of your Interns go on to become Trainees?

This year offers of traineeship were made to over 50% of our Interns.
