Areas of Work

Seats

As part of your in-office training, you will spend time in four of our seven main departments, namely: Corporate, Banking & Financial Services, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Commercial Property, Private Client, Taxation and Pensions. Each department you work in is known as a “seat” and you will work as part of a team with a designated Partner who will ensure you receive all the support, facilities and guidance you need to learn about that area of the law.  In addition you will receive an initial departmental induction, to help you integrate into that department as quickly as possible.

We also have a range of specialist groups focusing on particular areas of law including M&A, EU and Competition, Projects and Construction, Energy and Natural Resources, Inward Investment, IP and IT.

London Office

Some second year Trainees will also have the opportunity to take one of their seats in our London office. As well as advising international clients on Irish issues, the London office also advises Irish corporates who are doing business in the UK by leading and project managing the process and working closely with local lawyers and other advisors. We believe the London seat enhances your training experience, personal development and interpersonal skills.

Client Secondments

We actively encourage our Trainees to take part in client secondment opportunities as they arise. We focus very much on being advisors to Corporate Ireland in its wider sense. Our domestic and international client base, across a wide range of industry sectors, requires us to provide in-house legal assistance from time to time. We provide secondees to the insurance, technology and telecommunications and other industry sectors.

While on secondment we ensure that our Trainees receive the same levels of support and quality of work they can expect while in the office.

We believe that working with our clients in their environment helps us to cultivate stronger relationships with our clients and develop a stronger commercial understanding of their business. In addition, the extra responsibility and lateral thinking challenges that secondments present, means that you have the opportunity to develop on a personal and professional level.
