Bids Manager


Purpose of the role:

This is a senior and strategically important position which has overall responsibility for the management of bids and pitches of all types to drive new business generation - from broad scale panel reviews, to bids for particular pieces of work. The role will manage the production of pitch documents to the highest international standard, across a broad range of legal practice areas and industry sectors in the domestic and international market.

The individual will work directly with Partners and report into the Director of Strategy. Supported by a Bids Executive, the individual will work closely with other members of the Business Development & Marketing (BD&M) team.

Responsibilities:

Managing Pitches:

  • Identifying, tracking and coordinating opportunities to pitch for work
  • Document production including developing key messages and writing content
  • Project manage the process - end to end
  • Engaging with a range of Partners, the BD&M team and other areas throughout the Firm to obtain the information required
  • Advice on pitch strategy, including determining and challenging decisions to pitch
  • Contribute to discussions around pricing strategies and models
  • Engaging, in certain instances, with the prospective client at the outset and/post bid submission

Process and Systems:

  • Oversee the Bids IT infrastructure systems, software and processes to continually make pitching and tendering more efficient and effective
  • Coaching and preparation of pitch teams

 Management Information (MI) and Reporting:

  • Upkeep of Bid MI and tracking on a continuous basis
  • Track, analyse and report on outcomes of pitches
  • Conduct post tender feedback meetings where appropriate

Skills and experience required:

  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills
  • Project management, people management and organisation skills
  • IT Skills – e.g. MS Office suite, Sharepoint and Visio
  • Ability to establish credibility, effectively engage with and influence diverse teams of senior individuals
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines, manage multiple projects and deliver under pressure to a high standard
  • Commercial focus and acumen
  • Knowledge and understanding of the provision of professional services ideally corporate legal services
