A&L Goodbody & GOAL UCD Law Award 2017

UCD Asylum Law Award Competition 2017 entries closed

The A&L Goodbody and GOAL UCD Law Award 2017 provides UCD students with the opportunity to gain invaluable legal expertise before applying for a career in law. Put your legal drafting and advocacy skills to use in our essay competition and gain an opportunity to work with GOAL and support their work in developing countries. Exposure to this type of work experience can be an ideal first step in your legal career, and we know how hard it can be to get this type of experience so here's your chance.

A&L Goodbody's Collaboration with GOAL

A&L Goodbody has been a long term advisor to GOAL in relation to corporate governance, contractual, employment and regulatory legal matters. Our staff have spent time on secondment with GOAL on a pro bono basis and the Firm has strongly supported the Calcutta Run, a significant GOAL fundraiser, for many years. We recognise the vital and inspirational work carried out by GOAL and we are delighted to partner with them in relation to this internship award.

The Task

Ireland has an admirable reputation as one the top 10 most generous countries in the world according to the Charities Aid Foundation’s World Giving Index for 2016. However, in the context of ever-increasing scrutiny (and certain scepticism) of the sector, identify what you see as the key challenges facing charities today and outline your proposed legal, business and/or political solutions to address those challenges. Take into account areas such as (but not limited to): a decline in individual fundraising, governments linking aid to trade and seeking 'value for money', regulatory requirements, a need for greater transparency, possible consolidation in the sector, and increasing demand for services.
