Bethan Murphy Hand, BA University College Dublin
After graduating with a philosophy degree from UCD I did a summer internship at A&L Goodbody. This confirmed for me that I wanted to pursue a career in corporate law. I was placed in the Litigation department for my internship. I worked closely with a legal team and attended meetings with both our corporate and pro bono clients. I was offered a traineeship with the firm and prior to starting I worked as a paralegal in the Insurance department. I was able to continue working on several pro bono matters during my time there. One of the great things about ALG is its unwavering commitment to its whole clientele.
I have recently finished my first rotation in the Finance department as part of the Energy and Projects team, where I was involved in several large corporate financings of wind farms. The natural resources sector is expanding which meant that the work I did felt very relevant. During these deals I drafted documents, attended client meetings and conducted legal research. The variety and pace of the work meant that no two days were the same, which was exciting and great for my development. I love working in ALG - the people are great, it's faced paced and challenging, which is extremely rewarding. There is also time to let your hair down, creating a fun and collegiate environment.
