How we promoted Wellbeing in 2025
Our firm’s success is entirely due to our people. They drive and realise our ambitions when it comes to responsible business.

Creating an inclusive and supportive workplace is a priority for us. Through diversity initiatives, talent development, wellbeing programmes and meaningful engagement throughout the career lifecycle, we help our people grow, succeed and reach their potential.

External awards and recognition are never the point, but we’re proud to get them and see them as evidence of our strong culture and values. Achieving the Gold Diversity Mark from the Irish Centre for Diversity and being named Company of the Year at the National Diversity & Inclusion Awards are important milestones, recognising the sustained commitment of our people to building an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.

We continually scrutinise our data, listen to our people and hold ourselves accountable on bringing our values to life. We’re keenly focused on ensuring our people strategy meets changing expectations, while also aligning with our broader ESG commitments and determination to remain a leader in responsible business.

“We continually listen to our people and use their feedback to shape a workplace that reflects our values, supports development and enables everyone to do their best work.”

Engaging with our people

Listening to our people helps us make better decisions and create a workplace shaped by their experiences and perspectives.

Annual Insights employee engagement survey

Our Impact Committee reviews the results to shape firmwide initiatives, while local committees hold focus groups to fine-tune departmental actions.

Employee networks and committees

Our people can express their views and contribute to strategy development in these safe and empowering spaces.

Diversity survey

As part of our commitment under the Diversity Mark, we asked how we’re performing on diversity and inclusion, to ensure we draw on real experience to shape our strategy.

Lunch and learns

These enable our people to hear directly from peers and leaders on areas of strategic focus, fostering transparency, deepening understanding and shared purpose.

Consulting employees on plans for our new workplace

Structured input sessions with our employees were central to the design and development of our new office, including facilities and supports aimed at promoting and supporting wellbeing and belonging.

This feedback directly informed our decisions around providing an on‑site gym, wellbeing and family rooms, quiet and restorative spaces, gender‑neutral changing facilities and inclusive design features across the building.

Investing in talent

Professional development

Career development is a key priority at the firm. We offer multiple professional development opportunities, including mentoring and peer learning at all levels.

The ALG School of Business & Law has been running since 2017 and is designed to centralise our investment in people development. Uniting our internal knowledge, our clients’ commercial insights and external expertise, it seeks to set all our people up for success, whether they’re joining us, moving into a new role, building skills or making connections.

In 2025 over 70% of all employees participated in professional development sessions delivered by the ALG School.

Spotlight

AI training

To embed our governance approach to AI, we run a structured programme of training and capability development. All employees must understand how to operate within defined guardrails and approval processes, while maintaining their professional and regulatory obligations.

Our training goes beyond basic awareness. It focuses on building AI literacy and practical competence, including:

  • understanding how AI tools generate responses
  • recognising their limitations
  • critically evaluating outputs

Through this training, we support employees to apply their professional judgement when using AI, ensuring they review, challenge and use its outputs appropriately.

This enables our people to use AI tools safely and effectively, reinforces responsible behaviours and supports consistent, compliant use across the firm. Only people who have completed this training get access to AI tools.

Investing in future talent

Developing junior talent is a key priority for ALG. Our approach focuses on providing a structured and supportive pathway into the legal profession.

We work to ensure trainees engage with the firm before joining, building early connections and a sense of belonging. Ignite, our trainee development programme, underpins the traineeship, beginning with a week-long in-person induction and continuing through workshops, mentoring and practical experience.

Through continuous feedback and year-on-year improvements, we’re committed to evolving our approach, ensuring our graduate programme not only attracts top talent, but supports those taking part to thrive and develop from the outset.

Our graduate recruitment initiatives undertaken during 2025 were recognised at the 2026 GradIreland Awards, where ALG received the Most Popular Graduate Recruiter in Law award, marking our 14th win in 15 years. We also received Silver awards for Graduate Employer of the Year (intake up to 40) and Best Candidate Application, Onboarding and Induction Experience.

“Developing future talent is about more than attracting the right people. It's about providing the support, opportunities and sense of belonging that enable them to thrive and build rewarding careers with us.”

Ensuring our workplace is inclusive

Respecting, valuing and fostering our differences is vital to our culture at ALG

We do our best to be inclusive at every turn, and to respect and strive for diversity across our five D&I pillars:

  • accessibility
  • gender equality
  • social mobility
  • cultural diversity
  • LGBTQ+

Each D&I pillar is supported by an employee-led committee providing a safe and empowering space for our people to share their views and ideas, and to input actively to strategy development.

At every level of our firm colleagues put in huge effort to spark change within our organisation, in the legal sector and across society.

The ALG Committees Fair in October 2025 brought together our employee-led committees, including D&I, Green and our Sports & Social committee, creating an opportunity for colleagues to connect, learn and get involved.

Accessibility

Our accessibility strategy focuses on awareness, capability building and creating more inclusive employment pathways.

Supported by our highly engaged, cross‑firm Accessibility Committee and its dedicated sub-groups, our firm’s focus in 2025 was on three key goals:

  • building accessible workplaces
  • raising awareness and delivering training
  • expanding employment and work‑experience opportunities

Ensuring our new HQ’s accessibility with Access Earth

In 2025 ALG worked closely with Access Earth and internal employee focus groups to embed universal design and best‑practice accessibility into the redevelopment of 25 North Wall Quay.

Members of the Accessibility Committee, including colleagues with experience of disability, were actively involved from early design stages to ensure our new workplace promotes independence, dignity, participation and wellbeing.

To mark International Day for Persons with Disabilities, our Accessibility Committee hosted a roundtable event with the Disability Legal Network and Access Earth. Those who came learned about the accessibility features of the new office, along with practical insights from peers.

Launching new partnership with NOW Group

In March 2025 ALG and the NOW Group launched a three-year strategic partnership. This award‑winning social enterprise supports neurodiverse people and people with learning difficulties into employment.

We introduced a JAM Card e-training module to equip our people to better support those with visible and non‑visible disabilities. It focused on building confidence, empathy, inclusive communication skills and practical awareness in everyday interactions.

Since March 2026, we have officially become a JAM Card friendly business with over 75% of our staff having completed the training.

We have also provided over 200 hours of pro bono support to the NOW Group since 2020, advising on matters of corporate governance, property, employment and intellectual property.

Our partnership with A&L Goodbody demonstrates the impact that can be achieved through collaboration.

Their rollout of JAM Card training has helped raise awareness and support greater inclusion across the firm, while their ongoing pro bono support continues to strengthen our work.

We are proud to work with an organisation that shares our commitment to creating opportunities and more inclusive environments for all."

Maeve Monaghan

CEO of Now Group

As someone who is neurodivergent, my JAM Card has been a lifeline outside the office.

Helping adopt this incredible system in the workplace has been such an honour and privilege as it may make a tangible difference in my colleagues’ lives as it has in mine.

Increased awareness and training can go such a long way in making every day a little easier for the people who need just a minute."

Cultural Diversity – sharing our diverse cultures

In 2025, we worked hard to reinforce our commitment to a workplace where people from all cultural backgrounds feel respected, valued and able to thrive.

Through targeted events, meaningful celebration, external collaboration and strong governance, our Cultural Diversity committee continued to foster understanding, connection and inclusion across our firm. In addition, the committee organised Spanish and French language classes, open to all colleagues, creating further opportunities for people to connect, learn and engage with different cultures.

During National Heritage Week 2025, we hosted our flagship celebration, Our World, Our Workplace: a cultural diversity celebration. This saw colleagues come together to share food, traditions, stories and cultural identity.

OneALG

In 2025, OneALG fostered LGBTQ+ inclusion across ALG through strategy, policy, employee‑led engagement and market‑leading pro bono legal impact.

Employee education and awareness events

LGBTQ+ mental health: understanding, empathy and support (with BelongTo and Aware).

Social events

Valentine drinks, Pride coffee morning, Pride Drag Bingo, BelongTo Rainbow Ball: silver sponsor for the sixth year.

Outlaw Network

Active member, supporting Outlaw’s annual Pride Brunch and ten years of marriage equality celebration event.

Social mobility

Our Social Mobility Committee is key in supporting an inclusive workplace, encouraging our people to engage in initiatives that promote access, opportunity and understanding across the firm.

Employee engagement in action

Through events, storytelling and partnerships with programmes such as P‑TECH, Junior Achievement Ireland, Career LEAP and Speakers for Schools, the Committee creates opportunities for colleagues to get involved in mentoring, volunteering and outreach. This helps to build awareness and foster a culture where diversity is respected and valued.

How we promoted wellbeing in 2025

Our approach to wellbeing is proactive and inclusive, while always staying aligned with our broader culture, inclusion and engagement objectives. With a broad programme of awareness, practical supports and accessible facilities, we continued to deepen our holistic approach to employee wellbeing in 2025.

Through our Wellbeing at ALG hub and firmwide initiatives, we offer programmes and facilities to support mental, physical and financial health to promote sustainable energy and resilience. We consider every aspect carefully to help reinforce our culture of care, connection and shared responsibility.

Coming together on the Liffey Loop for mental health

Our people took part in the Liffey Loop walk for the first time in 2025, supporting Aware as part of our ongoing commitment to mental wellbeing.

The event provided colleagues with an opportunity to come together, be active and connect outside the workplace while raising awareness of mental health supports.

We also continued to promote and support use of our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which offers confidential emotional and practical support to employees and their families.
