Damien Ryan is a senior associate in the EU, Competition & Procurement Group. He has broad experience acting on behalf of clients in merger reviews, antitrust litigation and investigations before the European Commission and national competition authorities.
On M&A transactions, Damien provides advice both in relation to merger control filings and on foreign investment issues such as the Irish FDI screening rules (i.e. the Screening of Third Country Transactions Act 2023) and the Foreign Subsidies regulation.
Damien has acted on a number of high-profile antitrust investigations before the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), the European Commission, and the Competition and Markets Authority.
He has a broad knowledge of utilities regulation, including pricing and access issues, particularly in the energy and telecommunications and media fields. He also regularly advises on competition law aspects of complex supply chains in agriculture and manufacturing.
Damien is an active participant on ALG’s sustainability committee and advises clients on the interplay between merger control, cooperation agreements and ‘out of market’ environmental considerations.
Damien previously worked in leading competition and antitrust teams in London and Edinburgh.
