Environmental & Planning
ALG's Environmental & Planning Group is Ireland's largest specialist team, providing strategic advice on Irish and EU environmental regulatory frameworks to domestic and international Life Science clients. Our expertise covers M&A transactions, defence of nuisance claims, judicial review challenges, and other regulatory actions.
We advise pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology, agri-chem, and healthcare sectors on a full range of environmental and planning legal issues. With unrivalled experience, we are the appointed counsel for many leading companies in these sectors, offering real solutions, strategic advice, and pragmatic legal support.
Our team collaborates with clients and their advisors on planning applications for new facilities and expansions, ensuring legal compliance. We provide guidance on legislation, case law, and interactions with key regulators, including Government Departments, local planning authorities, An Bord Pleanála, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
We assess the robustness of planning decisions and manage judicial review challenges through the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. We also handle alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and regulatory red flags.
In M&A transactions, we identify and assess environmental and regulatory risks. Operationally, we advise on environmental and health and safety compliance, defending against regulatory prosecutions and civil matters such as nuisance claims (odour and noise).
