Our award winning Trainee Solicitor Programme will equip you with the skill set and the knowledge you need to start to your career as a lawyer.

As a trainee solicitor at ALG, you can expect to receive excellent training in the practical application of the law from the moment you begin your career with us. We invest in your on-going development as a lawyer and as a trusted business adviser, because we know how important it is to reach your full potential. We provide a programme of development for each career stage, enabling everyone at ALG to be the best at what they do.

ALG School of Business and Law

Our school provides an integrated development programme for every stage of your legal career at ALG – from trainee solicitor to partner. Each programme builds technical legal skills alongside executive business skills.

Mentorship and feedback

We provide formal and informal feedback to discuss your progress and areas of development you would like to focus on. You are also paired with a mentor, a ‘go to’ person to help you get the most from your traineeship.

Practice

You complete 4 seats in our main departments – Disputes & Investigations, Corporate and M&A, Finance and Commercial Property. This allows you to learn through practice, discover your areas of interest and your strengths.

Core programme

In each seat you will participate in training sessions designed specifically for trainee solicitors. These include workshops, practice group insights, core legal development training, commercial awareness, advocacy, and other legal and business skills.
Ignite

Ignite is the firm’s development programme for trainee solicitors and marks the first stage of your career journey with ALG.

We understand that being an excellent lawyer goes beyond legal knowledge alone. That’s why our Ignite programme supports your development across legal, business, people, and communication skills, essential for becoming a successful corporate lawyer. This development takes place across three progressive phases, aligned with each stage of your traineeship. In each phase of your traineeship, you will build and practice your skills in these areas, ensuring a well-rounded and impactful learning experience.

Our Trainee Solicitor Programme is open to graduates from all academic disciplines who are final year undergraduates, post graduates and those who have successfully obtained a third level degree qualification.

How to apply

Applications for our 2027 Trainee Solicitor Programme will open on Tuesday 25 August 2026.

Applications will close on Friday 25 September at 5pm.
