A&L Goodbody and Arts & Business NI launch their third year of Leaders on Arts Boards Programme partnership
A&L Goodbody (ALG) and Arts & Business NI are proud to announce the third year of their partnership delivering Leaders on Arts Boards, a pioneering professional development and board placement initiative which supports NI’s creative sector – with applications now open.
The professional development programme has been turning aspiring board members into inspiring leaders for nearly four decades and is open to individuals of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Participants will take part in comprehensive boardroom training sessions led by industry experts this Autumn/Winter, following which they will be matched with an Arts Board that aligns with their interests and provides the opportunity to grow their skills and experience in a new creative environment.
Maeve McKervey, Head of Business at Arts & Business NI commented; "We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with A&L Goodbody for the third year. Not only are ALG experts in their field, but they are also fantastic advocates for our creative sector. Their training sessions are a real highlight—offering practical insights into legal responsibilities and essential boardroom skills every new trustee should know. If you’re curious about joining a board but are unsure where to begin, our professional development programme is the perfect first step. Applications are now open, and we’re excited to welcome a new group of aspiring board members ready to grow in confidence, build their skills, and make a real impact in the arts and cultural sector."
Benefits of taking part in the Leaders on Arts Boards programme include:
- Leadership and Skills Development: Participants will gain practical experience in board governance, strategic decision-making, and leadership.
- Networking Opportunities: Participants will have the chance to build valuable relationships and expand their networks.
- Supporting Arts and Culture: By joining the board of an arts organisation, participants will play a direct role in shaping the direction and impact of cultural organisations, contributing to the vibrancy and diversity of the arts landscape in Northern Ireland.
Aisling Byrne, Partner at ALG, said “As a leading corporate law firm, we collaborate daily with boards across the private, public, and voluntary sectors, and are firm advocates for the essential role they play in corporate governance. That’s why we believe in nurturing the next generation of board leaders by investing in individuals with the right expertise, insight, and leadership potential. We’re delighted to continue our support of this important professional development initiative which brings benefits - for both the individual and the organisation.”
Applications for the Leaders on Arts Boards programme are open to people from across all backgrounds and disciplines. There are two programme tiers, one for Business Leaders with senior leadership experience and one for emerging Young Leaders which includes additional training sessions.
