A&L Goodbody celebrates Social Mobility Day 2025
We’re proud to spotlight our social mobility initiatives and reaffirm our commitment to fostering opportunities for everyone, regardless of background to access the legal profession and experience meaningful careers.
Where you start shouldn’t limit how far you can go, and we share in the viewpoint that socio-economic diversity drives business success and builds a fairer society.
We recognise that not all communities have equal access to education and employment. From the rising cost of living to gaps in accessing professional networking opportunities, there are many barriers. Which is why we partner with leading organisations in our community to help remove these obstacles and create career pathways.
Through our community partnerships in Belfast and Dublin, our people use their skills and expertise to make a difference. Over the 2024/2025 academic year, approximately 138 of our people volunteered their time benefitting 644 people.
We begin in schools, offering work experience along with digital, literacy and professional skills workshops through programmes like P-TECH, Barclay’s Life Skills and Legal Fridays. Our early careers recruitment builds on this by supporting graduate students pursuing legal education and training through mentorship, paid internships and accommodation costs. Through our employment initiatives, we connect participants with senior leaders to build confidence and networks.
“My experience to date has solidified my aspirations to become a trainee solicitor at ALG. Coming from a socio-disadvantaged background, experiencing significant adversity from a young age and working extremely hard to get to the position I'm in provides an excellent base for the development of those attributes and skills.” ALG Access intern, 2024
Our Social Mobility Committee in Belfast and Dublin is a driver of our Social Mobility strategy which outlines our roadmap to increase outreach, access and supports for people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made – and even more excited about what’s ahead.
