Clare Cashin is a partner in A&L Goodbody’s Construction & Engineering group. She is a leading lawyer in construction disputes, with a broad background in contracts, construction, regulation and projects. Clare advises employers, contractors, designers, public authorities and private entities on large scale infrastructure projects.
She practices regularly in ADR, mediation, conciliation, arbitration and adjudication. Clare has managed complex construction disputes and understands the detailed reporting structures and risk assessments required for large scale infrastructure projects. Her disputes experience includes numerous procurement challenges.
Over the past 20 years, she has advised on some of the most notable construction and infrastructure projects in the state. Clare has experience of all standard construction contracts used in Ireland. She has handled disputes under FiDIC, the JCT, the RIAI and the NEC4 contract, working daily with the Irish public works contract (PWC).

- On issues arising from the regulation of the construction industry, including advising clients and representing them in investigations on health and safety and building regulations.
- On disputes involving a number of standard and bespoke contracts, including the RIAI, NEC ,FIDIC, GCCC.
- Procurement disputes and challenges, including the law on lifting the contractual suspension imposed in these cases; successfully advising and resolving procurement disputes in the High Court and Supreme Court.
- A variety of negligence claims for employers including negligence by consultants and contractors.
- Employers, contractors and sub-contractors in the negotiation of project agreements and construction contracts together with advice over the course of projects to include termination of construction contracts.

Professional activities
Clare sits on the committee of The Adjudication Society (Irish Branch) and is a nominee to the panel of practitioners who advise the Chair of the Adjudicator’s Panel. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the Adjudication Society and the Construction Bar Association. She lectures on the statutory regime in construction on post-graduate courses in Trinity College and UCD. Clare is a noted ADR practitioner in construction, and regularly contributes to conferences, panels and articles in this area.
