Guide to Article 50 of the EU AI Act

A practical breakdown of the transparency obligations you need to know

Thu 20 Aug 2026

3 min read

The EU AI Act's transparency obligations under Article 50 are now in force. Since 2 August 2026, organisations deploying or providing AI systems across the EU have been required to comply with specific transparency and disclosure requirements which carry real operational implications for businesses in Ireland and across Europe.

ALG's guide to Article 50 of the EU AI Act provides a detailed overview of these transparency obligations.

Drawing on the European Commission's recently published guidelines and the voluntary Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, this guide goes beyond the legislation itself. We consider the marking and detection requirements for AI-generated content, the disclosure and labelling obligations for deepfakes, the notification duties for emotion recognition systems, and the important exemptions and exceptions that may apply. We also examine the compliance timeline extension introduced by the AI Omnibus for systems already on the market.

Whether you are a technology company developing AI-powered products, a business integrating AI tools into your customer-facing operations, or an organisation using AI systems internally, this guide will help you understand your obligations and the considerations necessary to achieve compliance.
